  • Today - December 24. 6:30 PM. 2nd Annual Community Candlelight Peace Vigil. Peace activists and supporters from Plainfield and surrounding communities will gather for a witness to peace, with candles, signs and carols. On West 7th Street in front of the United Church of Christ, Congregational. West 7th Street and Madison Avenue (parking in Madison Avenue lot and on the street).

  • Today - December 24. 7 PM. A Service of Lessons and Carols. At United Church of Christ, Congregational. West 7th Street and Madison Avenue (parking in Madison Avenue lot and on the street).

  • Tomorrow - December 25. 9 AM - Noon. Community Christmas Breakfast.  Mt. Olive Baptist Church will offer a free community breakfast on Christmas Day for those in need. At the church, 216 Liberty Street.

  • Tomorrow - December 25. 11 AM - 3 PM. Ruth Fellowship - St. John's Community Christmas Dinner.  Ruth Fellowship Ministries partners with St. John's Baptist Church of Scotch Plains to provide a hearty homecooked Christmas dinner for those who are hungry or alone on the holiday. Annual FUSP Community Christmas Dinner.  The First Unitarian Society of Plainfield continues its honored holiday tradition of a free home-cooked Christmas dinner for the hungry and lonely of the Plainfield community. (Note: They are accepting donations of new or clean gently used winter hats, scarves or gloves to be given away to the dinner guests.) Info: Cass at (732) 574-0059.   • Monday - December 27. 8 PM. City Council Agenda Session, Budget Hearing and Adoption. Public may speak at end of meeting. City Hall Library. 515 Watchung Avenue. Parking and entry at rear of building.

  • Tuesday - December 28. 6 PM. PMUA: Rate Hike Hearing. The Plainfield Municipal Utilities Authority will consider a 61% rate hike for the 'shared services' portion of its services. At PMUA Headquarters, 127 Roosevelt Avenue (corner of East 2nd Street).

  • Thursday - December 30. 3 - 7 PM. Kwanzaa Celebration. At Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Avenue (parking in Spooner Avenue lot).
