  • Today - February 21. 6 - 9 PM. Mardi Gras Dinner Dance. Wear your 'fantasy beads' and masks and come join in the fun. Cajun and Southern food, appetizers and desserts. Prizes for costumes.   • Tomorrow - February 22. 10:30 PM. Caesar: Slave and Revolutionary War Patriot. Storyteller Lawrence Walker portrays Caesar and tells the stories of others buried at the Lamington Black Cemetery. At United Church of Christ, Congregational. West 7th Street and Madison Avenue (parking in Madison Avenue lot and on the street). FREE.

  • Tomorrow - February 22. 2:30 PM. A Seat For Rosa: Finding Strength in Rosa Parks. When Rosa Parks decided she wouldn't give up her seat on a bus in 1955, a new and important chapter in the civil rights movement began. A program for the whole family that draws inspiration from her historic stand. Sponsored by the Historical Society of Plainfield and Queen City Academy, benefiting the Drake House capital campaign and the QCA playground equipment fund. At Queen City Academy, West 7th Street and Grant Avenue (parking in the Grant Avenue lot). Tickets: $10/person. QCA: $15/family.

  • Tomorrow - February 22. 3 PM. An African-American History Month Talent Showcase. Sponsored by Theta Phi Omega Chapter of AKA. At Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, East 7th Street and Watchung Avenue (parking in lot on First Place or at Swain Galleries). FREE.

  • Tuesday - February 24. 2 - 5 PM. Full Speed Ahead: Getting You Driver's License Back. A workshop for those who have lost their driver's license on how to get it back. With over 400 grounds for suspension in NJ, reinstatement can be complicated and expensive. Attendees will receive tips for negotiating the judicial and administrative process. Sponsor include NJ Institute for Social Justice, the Motor Vehicle Commission and the Department of Labor. At Essex County College (Green and Yellow Area), 303 University Avenue, Newark.
