PRIMARY ELECTION CAMPAIGN BLOGS
A contested Democratic primary for the Wards 2/3 seat this year has three candidates seeking the party line on the November ballot: incumbent Rashid Burney, New Democrat Rebecca Williams, and former Ward 3 councilor Don Davis. In addition, Jim Pivnichny is an uncontested candidate in the Republican primary. Their online presences are listed below--

  • Tomorrow - June 2. 7PM & 9 PM. Film: The Cartel. Much-acclaimed documentary about New Jersey's teachers union, the NJEA. Q&A with Director Bob Bowdon will follow. All tickets $14.95 plus tax. At the Rialto, 250 East Broad Street, Westfield.

  • Thursday - June 3. 6:30 - 9 PM. Project Hope: Addressing Teen Violence in Plainfield. A community forum sponsored by a coalition of churches and community organizations. Terrance Davis, Security Officer for the Plainfield Public Schools will moderate. Panel members include J.M. Benjamin, Plainfield author; Larry Brown of the NJ State Gang Investigating Unit; and Yvonne Watts, Coordinator Training-Support Services for the Plainfield Public Schools. Youth and parents will also participate. At First Unitarian Society of Plainfield, 724 Park Avenue (Parking in city lot #7 across Park Avenue.). The event is FREE and open to all.

  • Friday - June 5. 6:30 PM. YMCA's Spring Gala and 133rd Annual Meeting. Join the YMCA family in honoring Plainfield's Track & Field Gold Medalist Milt Campbell, who will receive the 1st annual Jerome Wolff Achievement Award. Proceed will support youth scholarships.   • Saturday - June 5. Shakespeare in Bloom. See Philadelphia Inquirer story here, and photos here. The event has been canceled owing to the concert by the County in the park; however, the Shakespeare Garden is open for viewing, with plantings -- especially roses -- at their peak.

  • Saturday - June 5. Noon - 7 PM, rain or shine. Rhythm & Blues By The Brook. Featuring Morris Day and The Time, Biz Markie, Carl Weathersby, DJ Bookeem. Rides, activities and entertainment for the kids. FREE.

  • Saturday - June 5. 6 - 9 PM. Plainfield Symphony Garden Party. The annual summer fundraiser supports the free Family Concert scheduled for February, 2011.
