  • (Reservations by 3/15 please.) Rotary's 10th Annual Wine Tasting Dinner and Silent Auction. Thursday - March 26. 6 - 9 PM. Proceeds benefit college scholarships for PHS and NPHS students.   • Today - March 13. 6:30 PM. Plainfield Celebrates Phenomenal Women. Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs will recognize 'some of Plainfield's top women across the city and the accomplishments in their personal or professional lives' in celebration of Women's History Month. At the Plainfield campus of Union County College. East 2nd and Church Streets. Public invited.

  • Tomorrow - March 14. 9 AM. Volunteer Workday at Humane Society. Volunteers are invited to join in demolition to make way for new kennels and fencing; those wishing to help should bring work gloves and eye protection and wear old clothing. The Plainfield Area Human Society is on Rock Avenue between the PMUA Transfer Station and the Green Brook bridge. Info: contact.pahs@verizon.net. Note that though progress on fundraising has been made, they are still not out of the woods. You can help.

  • Monday - March 16. 8 PM. City Council Business Meeting. City Council Chambers/Courthouse. Watchung Avenue and East 4th Street. Public may speak at beginning and end of meeting.

  • Wednesday - March 18. 7 PM. LWV Forum: Charter Schools: Issues and Opportunities. Moderated by Plainfield League of Women Voters president Herb Green, this program brings together resources for a thorough discussion of issues facing families considering a charter school. Participants: Heather Ngoma, director of the NJ Charter School Resource Center; Superintendent Steve Gallon III, where an in-district alternative Arts and Advance Studies school begins this fall; and a representative of a Plainfield charter school. At Emerson Community School, East 3rd Street and Emerson Avenue.

  • Thursday - March 19. 7 PM. FOSH Meeting. The Friends of Sleepy Hollow meet to discuss issue of importance to residents and to plan activities for the community, among which a favorite is always the annual FOSH Yard Sale, which draws thousands of visitors to the Queen City.
