  • Tomorrow - February 20. 6 - 8 PM. Girl Scout Day Camp Open House. Campers and parents get a perfect opportunity to meet staffers and see what the day camp is all about. One of the two separately themed camps will be at the Jerseyland Community Center in Scotch Plains. Girls will be able to play games, try different sports, and make new friends.   • Saturday - February 23. 2 PM. Iwa L'ewa African Heritage Dance Ensemble. A presentation of traditional African dance, music and storytelling honoring African ancestors. The ensemble performs with authentic instruments and colorful costumes depicting West African cultures. Chakaba, one of the ensemble's premiere dancers, will perform a special masquerade dance on stilts. Founder/director Yewande Kelly-Johnson is a dancer, choreographer, storyteller and poet who offers African dance classes to youngsters and adults in Plainfield. Sponsored by the Plainfield Cultural and Heritage Commission. At Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Avenue (parking available on Spooner Avenue). FREE.

  • Saturday - February 23. 7 PM. Jazz Concert at Wilson. Renowned jazz vocalist Carrie Jackson and her all-star trio: Jou Rainone, piano; Steve Freeman, bass; Gordon Lane, drums. Hear Carrie and crew in renditions of jazz classics from the Great American Songbook, in an intimate cabaret setting. Fisher Hall at Wilson Memorial Church, Valley Road at Hillcrest Road (parking off Hillcrest), Watchung. Light refreshments follow the concert. A free-will offering will be taken. MFAS is a nonprofit arts organization, the project of Plainfield residents Brian Dallow and Rena Fruchter for the past 16 years.
