    • Black History Month. Every Sunday in February, 10 AM. Special Black History Month programs at United Church of Christ - Congregational, 220 West 7th Street. Readings, dance, special music, guest speakers. On Feb. 24, a sumptuous feast of Southern delicacies will follow the program. All are invited.

  • Today - February 22. 6 PM. Film: 'Death of Two Sons'. A Black History Month program presented by Queen City Academy and 21st Century Learning Triangle, featuring a film by award-winning producer/director Plainfielder Alrick Brown. A discussion with the producer will follow. At Queen City Academy (former Temple Sholom building), West 7th Street and Grant Avenue (parking in Grant Avenue lot).

  • Tomorrow - February 23. 2 PM. Iwa L'ewa African Heritage Dance Ensemble. A presentation of traditional African dance, music and storytelling honoring African ancestors. The ensemble performs with authentic instruments and colorful costumes depicting West African cultures. Chakaba, one of the ensemble's premiere dancers, will perform a special masquerade dance on stilts. Founder/director Yewande Kelly-Johnson is a dancer, choreographer, storyteller and poet who offers African dance classes to youngsters and adults in Plainfield. Sponsored by the Plainfield Cultural and Heritage Commission. At Washington Community School, 427 Darrow Avenue (parking available on Spooner Avenue). FREE.

  • Tomorrow - February 23. 7 PM. Jazz Concert at Wilson. Renowned jazz vocalist Carrie Jackson and her all-star trio: Jou Rainone, piano; Steve Freeman, bass; Gordon Lane, drums. Hear Carrie and crew in renditions of jazz classics from the Great American Songbook, in an intimate cabaret setting. Fisher Hall at Wilson Memorial Church, Valley Road at Hillcrest Road (parking off Hillcrest), Watchung. Light refreshments follow the concert. A free-will offering will be taken.   • Monday - February 25. 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Music For All Seasons Conversations Series: AndrĂ© Previn. Join broadcast personality Nancy Shear in an intimate conversation with the artist, followed by a reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres. At the Bösendorfer Artist Salon, 200 Lexington Avenue (at 33rd Street), New York. MFAS is a nonprofit arts organization, the project of Plainfield residents Brian Dallow and Rena Fruchter for the past 16 years. Proceeds from this event help provide musical programs for children living in shelters for victims of domestic violence. $75/person.
