WHAT'S HAPPENING

  • Today - September 11. 7th Anniversary of 9/11. As has been my custom, I will be roving the city today taking pictures of flag displays which will be posted later.

  • Saturday - September 13. 11 AM - 3 PM. 9th Annual PMUA Environmental Fair. Activities for kids of all ages. Environmental information, equipment displays. Music. Food. At Library Park, West 8th Street and College Place. FREE. (Rain date, September 27).

  • Saturday - September 13. 2 - 4 PM. Book Signing: 'Plainfield's History & Architecture'. Long awaited, local historians John Grady and Dotte Pollard will be on hand to autograph copies of their newly-released pictorial history of Plainfield. (I'll be reviewing this sumptuous book during the week. -- Dan) You won't want to miss this event -- stock up with several for your holiday gift list. At Borders bookstore, Watchung Square Mall. FREE.

  • Saturday - September 13. 3:00 PM. PSO's Annual FREE Children's Concert. Kids and families alike will delight at the featured 'Phil Harmonic and His Fabulous Orchestra' by David Rimelis. Guest conductor: Michael Avagliano. At Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, East 7th Street and Watchung Avenue. Donations of school supplies (pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc.) are welcome and will go to students at the Queen City Academy charter school. Information: (908) 561-5140.

  • Saturday - September 13. 3 PM. Obama Rally and HQ Grand Opening. Sen. Frank Lautenberg and Newark Mayor Cory Booker have been invited by Assemblyman Jerry Green to rally local forces for the November election. The local Democratic HQ will also celebrate its grand opening. Come out. Sign up. Work for change. Democratic HQ is at 311 East Front Street. All are welcome.

  • Saturday - September 13. 4:30 - 7:30 PM. 8th Annual 'Wine Discovery'. One of Plainfield's 'must-attend' events, the annual wine tasting raises funds in support of the Plainfield Public Library's literacy and program needs. Sponsor: Friends of the Plainfield Public Library. At the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Gearhart 1039 Rahway Road. Tickets: $75/person advance, $85 at the door. There is also an exclusive tour of this magnificent home from 3:30 - 4:30 PM Tickets for the tour (including the wine tasting) are $85/person in advance and $95 at the door. Info: (908) 757-2305.
