WHAT'S HAPPENING

  • Today - August 21. 9 AM. Connolly returns to Housing Court. Connolly Properties' David Connolly is scheduled to return to the courtroom of Judge Andrew Baron to report on progress in addressing thousands of code violations in his Plainfield rental properties. Public may attend. Having one's 'day in court' is literally that -- the Connolly case will come up at some point during the day, but no telling exactly when.

  • Today - August 21. 6:30 PM. Tribute to Michael Jackson. The youngsters of the YMCA's summer camp have produced their very own tribute to the late pop icon. All are invited to join the 100 campers, aged 6 to 13, in this rousing cap to their busy summer schedule. At the YMCA Gym, Watchung Avenue at East 6th Street (use Youth Center entrance on East 6th Street; parking lot is well-lit and camera-monitored).

  • Tomorrow - August 22. 10:30 AM. Plainfield Family Success Center Activity. 'Craft Time with Ms. B'. At the PFSC, 925 Arlington Avenue (old High School), Rooms 403/405.   • Sunday - August 23. 6 PM. Peach Festival and Carillon Concert. Come out for Grace Episcopal Church's annual peach festival, featuring an abundance of homemade peach desserts. The event includes a twilight concert by the parish carillonneur, Jeff Spelman, on the 47-bell Pittis carillon. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for your comfort.

  • Monday/Tuesday - August 24/25. The Harlem Ladies Knittin' and Bitchin' Society. Playwright Ben Marshall, Plainfield resident and Middlesex County College professor, directs this play at NYC's Dramatists Guild. Monday, 7 - 9 PM. Tuesday, 2:30 - 4:30 PM. At the Frederick Loewe Room of the Dramatists Guild, 1501 Broadway (between 42nd and 43rd Streets). Photo ID required to enter building. RSVP necessary to get on guest list to rfeuerman@rcn.com.

  • Monday - August 24. 6 PM. Exhibit: Plainfield: Lost But Not Forgotten. Opening night reception. An exhibit of photographs and postcards from the Plainfield Public Library's extensive collection focusing on institutions and businesses from the Queen City's past which are still fondly remembered. The exhibit will be available for viewing during Library hours through October 17. In the Anne Louise Davis Meeting Room at the Plainfield Public Library, Park Avenue and 8th Street. FREE.

  • Wednesday - August 26. 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Open Public Records Act (OPRA) Seminar. Sponsored by the Government Records Council, which adjudicates disputes concerning public records. Open to all, free of charge, no pre-registration required. At the NJ State Museum Auditorium, 205 West State Street, Trenton. Limited free parking in the State House garage.
