  • Today - October 7. 8 PM. Planning Board. City Hall Library. Public invited. Parking and entry at rear of building.

  • Today thru Saturday - October 7-9. Hours vary. New Jersey Black Issues Conference. The must-do event for all concerned with issues affecting New Jersey's African American community. Workshops, seminars, panel discussions, networking events. This year's theme: Strengthening Families and Building Community. On-site registration: $150/adult, $55/under 18 and Senior.   • Saturday - October 9. 9 AM - 2:30 PM. Hispanic Health Fair. The annual health fair offers free testing for: vision; colorectal cancer screening; Pap and breast exams; hypertension; circulation; bone density; HIV; and blood sugar and cholesterol (last two can only be done if fasting). Mini-lectures in Spanish. Refreshments, music, face painting, medical consults. Sponsored by the Coalition of Hispanic Physicians. At Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, East 7th Street and Watchung Avenue. (Parking in church lot, on street, or in Swain Galleries lot). FREE.

  • Saturday - October 9. 10 AM - Noon. Library Grounds Community Cleanup. Come out and support Plainfield's wonderful library. Volunteers meet on library steps at 9:45 AM. Gloves, rakes and bags will be provided. Both parking lots and the ground will be cleaned, raked and swept. Sponsored by the New Democrats political club.   • Sunday - October 10. Noon - 5 PM. Barbecue Fundraiser for Plainfield Area Humane Society. BBQ and other foods, plus music, prizes and raffles. Pet- and animal-related vendors.
