RECENT POSTS: Bernice has a number of interesting short posts and a longer one on Council-Administration tensions. Olddoc has two posts on the Council meeting, covering some parliamentary points and pleading (once again) for deliverance from over-long meetings. Maria is pleased with Councilor McWilliams reponse on Council minutes. Councilor McWilliams takes responsibility for Council minutes being months behind. Councilor Mapp wonders if Christie's tunnel maneuver was a 'stroke of genius'. Councilor Burney wants the City to find money for an ambulance. Jerry on affordable housing and his non-involvement in day-to-day Plainfield affairs, except for getting out the vote.

  • Saturday/Sunday - October 16 and 17. 10 AM - 5PM Saturday, Noon 5 PM Sunday. Four Centuries in a Weekend.  Plainfield's Drake House Museum and 24 other sites across Union County will be open to the public for extended hours as part of the County's annual celebration of community-based historic houses and museums. The Drake House currently is showing an exhibition on the history of Plainfield's fire division and has fre-related historic information in each of the museum's period rooms. See more here.   • Saturday - October 16. Noon - 3 PM. Community Leaders Awards Luncheon. The United Plainfield CDC will honor Rev. LaVerne Ball, Garri Daniels, Christian Estevez, Donald Van Blake, Betty Willey and Daphne Willard. Proceeds will be designated to United Church of Christ's Camp Discovery summer day camp, after school programs and community development. Tickets: $60. At Spain Inn, West 7th & Rock Avenue.   • Saturday - October 16. Noon (rain or shine). 10th Annual Bridgeway Walk for Independence. The annual 2.5 mile walk helps people with mental illness to achieve self-sufficiency. Bridgeway, serving clients in seven counties in central and northern NJ. Through its recovery-centered support services, its mission is enabling individuals to live as independently as possible, to work and learn in the community and to improve their quality of life.   • Saturday, October 16. 7 PM. SOX 'n SUBS: A 1950s Dance Party Benefiting the Library. Dig out that poodle skirt and those blue suede shoes and come out for a rockin' night of food, fun and dancing in support of the Plainfield Public  Library. Read more here.
