All are welcome at the monthly meetings of Plainfield's largest non-profit, non-partisan, all-volunteer grassroots community improvement organization. This month will focus on the annual Garage Sale (in May), the United Way's 'Maidens in May' house tour and September's planned 5K Run. Also reports on starting a block association for Oxford Avenue residents, and on the Block Association Coordinating Council.   • Tomorrow/Saturday - February 19/20. 8 PM. Theater: The Light in the Piazza. A young American tourist falls for an Italian while visiting Rome. Based on the novella by Elizabeth Spencer.   • Saturday - February 20. 1 PM. Olympic Gold Medalist Cullen Jones at the YMCA. Jones, who hails from Irvington, will talk about his journey from learning to swim at the Newark Y to representing the USA at the Beijing Games. The event promotes Jones' Make-a-Splash Foundation and the YMCA's initiative to provide swimming lessons to every Plainfield public school youngster. Jones will sign autographs and pose for photos. Children FREE; adults, $5. At the Plainfield Area YMCA, 518 Watchung Avenue (corner of East 6th Street; parking in the rear).

  • Sunday - February 21. 3 PM. Piano: Jade Simmons offers 'Russian Ruminations'. Crescent Concerts presents the electrifying African American pianist Jade Simmons in a program of Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Scriabin.   • (MUHLENBERG) Tuesday - February 23. 9:30 AM (be early to get a seat). Hearing on Muhlenberg Closing Suit. Oral arguments in the city's appeal of the state's decision to close Muhlenberg will be heard by the Appellate Division of Superior Court in Morristown (Morris County Courthouse, Washington Street).
