  • Today - February 1. 7:30 PM. City Council Agenda Session. City Hall Library. 515 Watchung Avenue. (Parking and entry at rear of building.) Public may speak at end of meeting.

  • Thursday - February 4. 6:30 PM. Relay For Life Organizing Meeting. Join with the team organizing this year's Relay for Life event in a kickoff meeting, celebrating a world with less cancer and more birthdays! At PNC Bank, 2nd and Park Avenue (use the ATM entrance on West 2nd Street). Also, mark your calendar for the 2010 Relay For Life, at Hub-Stine Field, May 22-23. See Plainfield's website here.   • Thursday - February 4. 6:30 - 9:15 PM. Talk and Exhibit: Negro League Baseball at Yankee Stadium, 1930-48. Join with Robert Scott, former pitcher and first baseman for the NY Black Yankees of the Negro National League, and Dr.Lawrence Hogan, senior history professor at Union County College. The talk will also include memorabilia as well as excerpts from a video of the League's historic first game at Yankee Stadium, July 5, 1930. A special exhibit will feature New Jersey players, including Plainfield's Joe Black, who pitched for the Baltimore Elite Giants before joining the Brooklyn Dodgers. At the Roy Smith Auditorium, Union County College, 1033 Springfield Avenue, Cranford. Registration: $10/person.   • Monday - February 8. 6 PM. PMUA Rate Hearing. PMUA Commissioners will conduct the public hearing on the agency's proposed 2010 rate changes, at which the public may speak. At PMUA headquarters, 127 Roosevelt Avenue (corner of East 2nd Street). Info: (908) 226-2518. Regular meetings are often very brief though the rate hearing may be longer, still you should not dawdle if you're going.

  • Monday - February 8. 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Queen City Baseball League Registration. Groups offered: T-Ball (ages 4-6), Minor League (7-9), Major League (10-12), Pony League (13-14), Girls Junior Softball (5th/6th, 12 and under), Girls Senior Softball (7th/8th, 14 and under). $85/first child, 20% discount ($17) for all siblings (with fundraising commitment).
