- Today - February 20. 1 PM. Olympic Gold Medalist Cullen Jones at the YMCA. Jones, who hails from Irvington, will talk about his journey from learning to swim at the Newark Y to representing the USA at the Beijing Games. The event promotes Jones' Make-a-Splash Foundation and the YMCA's initiative to provide swimming lessons to every Plainfield public school youngster. Jones will sign autographs and pose for photos. Children FREE; adults, $5. At the Plainfield Area YMCA, 518 Watchung Avenue (corner of East 6th Street; parking in the rear).
- Today - February 20. 8 PM. Theater: The Light in the Piazza. A young American tourist falls for an Italian while visiting Rome. Based on the novella by Elizabeth Spencer. In Rosa Parks' own words, the essence of the struggle for fundamental rights for black Americans is conveyed. High school students interested in attending Morgan State University can visit the campus through this bus trip. Attendees get a campus tour, tickets to men's and women's basketball games against Norfolk State, and an all-you-can-eat lunch. Seniors may sit with on-site admissions counselors. $75/person, all-inclusive. Student under 16 must be accompanied by a chaperone. Trip begins and ends at Metropark station in Edison.
