Organized by blogger (and school board candidate) Renata Hernandez, an evening of 'knowledge sharing and empowerment' kicks off with dinner at 6. Topics to be discussed include: Transparency, integrity, respect, civility, fiduciary integrity, fiscal responsibility and professional courtesy. At C.F.G. Church, 255 Johnston Avenue (corner of East 3rd Street). All are welcome. FREE.
- Tomorrow - February 16. 8 PM. Public Hearing: FY2010 Budget as Amended. Taxpayers and other interested parties may present objections to the proposed budget as amended by the City Council at its meeting last week. At City Hall Library. 515 Watchung Avenue. Parking and entry at the rear of the building. Public welcome.
- Wednesday - February 17. 6 PM. 4th Ward Community Meeting. Community members are invited to join in a conversation about Ward 4 concerns and opportunities, hosted by Councilor Bridget Rivers. Among the topics to be addressed are: public safety, quality of life issues, creating block associations and building a sense of community. At Clinton Elementary School, 1302 West 4th Street (at Clinton Avenue). All are invited.

- Wednesday - February 17. 8 PM. FOSH 5K Run Planning Meeting. Anyone interested in helping plan and promote FOSH's third 5K Run is invited to meet with others who are working on this community project, being coordinated by Tom Glynn of FOSH. Sunday, September 26 has been set as the date for the event, a portion of the proceeds of which will be donated to projects FOSH supports in the community -- especially awards to graduating PHS seniors and tuition to Plainfield school children for after-school and summer classes at duCret School of Art. Jones, who hails from Irvington, will talk about his journey from learning to swim at the Newark Y to representing the USA at the Beijing Games. The event promotes Jones' Make-a-Splash Foundation and the YMCA's initiative to provide swimming lessons to every Plainfield public school youngster. Jones will sign autographs and pose for photos.
