  • Today - October 1. 8:30 AM Sharp. Plainwood Square Merchants Association. South Avenue's merchants meet once a month to review and plan area activities, discuss issues, and network.   • Thursdays through November 19. 4:30 - 5:30 PM. Free Basic Spanish Classes: A Plainfield Family Success Center Activity. Basic Spanish to help navigate everyday communication situations. All activities are without charge.

  • Today - October 1. 7 PM. Reception and Talk on Winslow Homer. Because they are too valuable to exhibit every day, two of the Plainfield Public Library's Winslow Homer pieces have been reproduced for display. Join Library Director Joe Da Rold and board members in a reception and viewing of the reproductions. Sotheby's expert Gretchen Burch will talk about Homer's life and art at 7:30 PM. In the Anne Louise Davis Meeting Room at the Plainfield Public Library, Park Avenue and 8th Street. FREE.

  • Saturday - October 3. 9 AM - 2 PM. Annual Hispanic Health Fair. Sponsored by the Coalition of Hispanic Physicians and Latinas en Accion. Screenings for: Vision; Pap and breast exams; HIV; Bone density; and Hypertension. Mini-lectures in Spanish by Coalition doctors. Refreshments, music, face painting, clown. At Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, East 7th Street and Watchung Avenue. All are welcome. FREE.
