  • Tomorrow - October 14. 7 - 9 PM. Using OPRA: A Citizens Training Forum. Join with other citizen activists as attorney Walt Lauers and public access activist John Paff demystify the public records request process. Sponsored by the RU Society of Professional Journalists and NJ Foundation for Open Government. In the multi-purpose room of the RU Student Center, 126 College Avenue, New Brunswick.   • Thursdays through November 19. 4:30 - 5:3 PM. Free Basic Spanish Classes: A Plainfield Family Success Center Activity. Basic Spanish to help navigate everyday communication situations. All activities are without charge.

  • Thursday - October 15. 8 PM. Planning Board. City Hall Library. 515 Watchung Avenue (parking in lot at rear of building). Public invited.

  • Friday - October 16. 6 - 8 PM. The Drake House Reopens! Join in as the Drake House officially reopens after major capital improvements -- including heating, air conditioning and dehumidifying systems and accessibility improvements -- which will prepare the Drake House for serving the 21st century needs of its Plainfield patrons. At the Drake House Museum, 602 West Front Street (at Plainfield Avenue). FREE, but please RSVP to (908) 755-0132.

  • Saturday/Sunday - October 17/18. Four Centuries In A Weekend. The Drake House is one of 25 historic sites and buildings throughout Union County sharing five themed activities on this very popular weekend. The Drake House will be open Saturday from 10 AM - 5 PM, and Sunday from Noon to 5 PM. For a complete program and list of sites, visit Union County's web page here. All sites are open without charge and the public is warmly invited.

  • Sunday - October 18. 9 AM - 2 PM. Household Special Waste Collection. Items accepted include: Batteries, tires (limit 8/household), propane tanks, paints & varnishes, aerosol cans, and more.
